You heard it all before, writing is rewriting. When you are familiar with the different stages of editing, it's not only easier to find an agent, sell your manuscript or get good reviews for your book—it will also help you become a better writer.  

But how do you not get overwhelmed by it?

I love editing myself. I love using another part of my brain than I normally do. One of the things that helped me most when dealing with editors is not being too precious with my own work. Knowing when to fight, and knowing when to listen and learn.
